Spokane, Washington is the latest site to receive attention from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Concerns over possible soil contaminants arose after an investigation in Libby, Montana, where an entire town was covered with a fine dust contaminated with asbestos. The dust was a result of nearby vermiculite mining, under the operation of the W.R. Grace company, the same company which operates a nearby insulation production facility. The cleanup in Libby, Montana was ordered after reports of over 200 deaths from asbestos exposure reached the federal legislature.
